Dear gawd it's been awhile.
While I tried to fall asleep tonight, I couldn't help but think about the possibility of a future with no technology. This future is not what you would call the "future" you think of. It would be a vast emptiness, no? Or so you think.
Hundreds of years ago, when Technology was a thing of the future, in which we now reside, people burned candles to have light, they wrote letters with pen, and paper. They would ride on horseback hundreds of miles away to let a loved one know that they were now a grandfather, and yet, we sit in a time where expectant mothers are tweeting about the newborn son they just gave birth to, or the so called mothers who just watched their son die in a pool accident.
I sit in front a screen, a 1080p HDMI capable 23.5 inch monitor that I thought I must have! I look at it and think, what if it wasn't there? What If technology wouldn't of advanced fast enough for me to see what I see now, a white page with a blue header. Facebook is what this page is called. What if Facebook failed to exist, what if Mark Zuckerberg's mother would have died from complications during his birth, and he would not of lived? What if he would of taken those jobs at Microsoft or AOL instead of Enrolling at Harvard? These are just questions in a world where question is what makes day turn into night.
I have rounded up every piece of technology that resides in my bedroom, which I spent most of my spring break, sleeping. Re cooperating from a semi-monstrous task of being a multi tasker. I go to school, where I am learning to become a Computer Support Specialist. Mighty fine idea I must add. I enjoy every minute of schooling, from Web design, to A+ Certification, to the classes I don't have to take, like Introduction into Mass Media, or Magazine Production, in which I plan on taking Intro to Journalism classes for the next two semesters, hoping to write for the Hutchinson Community College weekly newspaper The Collegian.
Now, back to the technology in my room. It may not seem like much, but look at it. (I have included a photo with tags of each Item) You Can see my laptop, my desktop, cellphone, Ipod Nano, Ipod Touch, two video cameras, a voice recorder, for taking notes, and what I held in my hand for these photos, my Canon DSLR camera, in which I love.
It all started in Fall of 2008, when I got my laptop, then, it was pretty pricey, and still is, but it gets the job done. It's gone through three full complete re installations of Vista, and runs Ubuntu as a secondary OS. It was at one time, my home server, in which thousands of pictures and music files were stored for my parents. It has had a good life, lately, the hard drive is beginning to fail. Which comes to my point, technology will fail.
You're thinking, all that writing for that statement? No, all that writing to get you thinking about other things, things that all surround technology, in which, will ultimately fail.
Photos are going digital, journals are now blogs, and conversation is now HTML coding and a few strikes on the enter key. Video's are for memories, in which are for forgetful people, photos are the same way. Music is now going digital, almost completely, it is said that within the next 5 years, expect CD sales to plummet completely. Itunes has risen to fame, and yet something must come to surpass. It is to happen, no matter what you do. Technology will fail. There is no way around it.
Unless of course, technology causes the failure.
In which that is another story.
**-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
I have decided that this summer, I am going to test myself. I am soon going to be picking a week in which I will live without any of my technological gadgets, excluding the essentials. (I.E.: My car, and my alarm clock{gotta wake up}.)
-I will not use internet, or my computer for any reason.
-I will not use my Ipod or any MP3 device.
-I won't even use my digital camera, I will use my fathers Film camera to document my week.
-I will not use my cell phone. (contact me through my home phone. or by letter. haha.)
-I will not use email, facebook, twitter, blogspot, or anything of that matter on any devices.
-I will not use my xbox 360, PS3, Wii or any other gaming systems.
-I will not watch television, won't be hard, as I don't watch it anyways.
-I will take notes as to what I do instead of these things, and use a notepad and pen to do so.
--Please add to my list if you want. I want to make sure I cover everything.
feel free to spread word to friends about technology. they should be warned.
